What single word means ‘when all options turn into one’? [on hold]

0

I can’t find a word that means ‘when all options turn to one’. Here’s an example so you can understand:

Jack has five options for fish at dinner.
Rainbow fish,
glitter fish,
olive fish,
Cambrian fish, and
Lahn’s fish.
He uses his phone to see what they are like.
Dictionary.com says that Rainbow fish is the same as glitter fish, so now he has only four options. Words’n’Stuff.com says that olive fish is an archaic term for Cambrian fish, so now poor Jack is down to three. TotallyFake.com says Lahn’s fish, olive fish, and rainbow fish are synonyms, so Jack now only really has one option. Does anyone happen to have a name for this phenomenon? Thank you! You could use it in such a way:
“Donald really experienced ????? when he was looking for mattresses. They were all the same, but called different names!”
