Is the word 'propositioned' used correctly in this sentence?

'It's currently heading in the direction where I can feel one of us propositioning the other for drinks when we're back in Cambridge honestly'



The above was a message I sent to a friend. He says I used the word 'propositioning' incorrectly, I think I'm using it to be synonymous with 'suggesting to', so my message is equivalent to 'suggesting to the other (to go) for drinks', but he claims this is incorrect as the drinks is the direct object, and the other person I'm referring to is the indirect object.



Are either of us correct?
