How may I more correctly say “If a (noun) may be (past-tense verb) (preposition),–”
Here is my specific sentence:
If an object specification may be inherited from,–
I guess what's going on here is that I'm struggling with object specification being the indirect object of inherited. If it were a direct object, there'd be no problem:
If a train may be taken,–
What are my options? My grasp of grammar is at a beginner level. I would prefer to keep a straight-forward if-then structure:
If (condition), then (consequence).
But I'm open to other possibilities.
