Contracts for personal services are also not, generally speaking, specifically enforceable.
In De Francesco v Barnum, Fry LJ insisted that ‘the Courts are bound to be jealous, lest they
should turn contracts of service into contracts of slavery’.70 The courts should clearly not
force a person to work where that would be tantamount to slavery.
