Adding the letter “a” to certain words

Could the letter "a" be added to certain words as supplements, to bolster the definition of the word? For example, could "a" be added to "loud", thus making it "aloud"? While "aloud" is indeed a dictionary term, how about other words? Is it generally accepted to use "a" as a supplement?
