What is the best synonym for “experience” (as something you have lived)?

1

I was thinking in something like "episode" or "event" but maybe they have different connotations.

It is just to describe a concrete thing I have lived through, not very extensive in time, which has been important for me.

Like "An incredible experience" or "A terrible experience"

The problem with episode is that it sounds like a TV program and “event” sounds quite inpersonal... or not?

What is wrong with the word "experience" itself in this case?
